Assessment – Part 1 (1500 words)
A new performance management and reward system is to be introduced into Netporter (or use an organisation of your choice). To support the
implementation, you have been asked to provide a report to describe and
explain the rationale and process behind the implementation of a performance management and reward system.
1. Describe the purpose (at least two) of performance management and its
relationship to business objectives;
2. Explain what an effective performance management system should contain
(at least three elements) and how effective performance management is
linked to motivation (with reference to at least two motivational theories);
3. Identify and explain factors that need to be considered when managing
employee performance, both good and poor.

4. Identify and list the data required by individuals when reviewing and
involved in performance and reward management processes/systems (e.g. the
data HR, line managers, employees can use to review performance prior to a

management system;
6. Identify the components (at least three, one of which should be nonfinancial) and explain the benefits of an effective ‘total reward’ system.

Assessment – Part 2 (500 words)
You are keen to gain the ‘buy-in’ of line managers who will be conducting the
performance reviews with their staff on an annual basis. You also want to
educate the line managers on why the process is being introduced and what
they should consider in managing performance generally. Produce a short ‘user
friendly’ briefing guide for line managers which:
• explains the frequency, purpose and process of a performance review.


Assessment – Part 3 Skills Assessment
You are required to carry out a performance review meeting for the role you recruited for Warehouse Manager for Netporter.com You should note the following: Your course tutor will provide you with a summary of how
the individual has performed during the prior 12 month period to be
analysed. The person playing the role of the Warehouse Manager
being appraised will also have a brief handed to them.
You are therefore, required to plan for, carry out and reflect on a performance review meeting of the Warehouse Manager in question. You will be required to design and utilise a review form to document the meeting and also record the agreed development outcomes.

1.1 Purpose of Performance Management and its Relationship to Business Objectives

The primary roles of an entity performance management are an evaluation of the best practice to be followed to achieve specific set goals (ACAS, 2017).  This is done through strategic performance review which is anchored on the entire organisation operations.
