1.0 Assessment Criteria 4.1: Introduction to Research
In the contemporary competitive business environment, HR plays a critical role in ensuring companies leverage on competitive advantage. In this regard, CIPD (2011a) argued that it was essential to facilitate an ample management of employee retention as a strategy in HRM as it is guaranteed realization of entity goals and objectives. The strategies to enhance the employee’s retention include rewards and compensation, appropriate work environment, provision of promotional activities among others (CIPD., 2011b). All these practices ensure the success of an organization in its environment of operations. In context of the focus company National Gas and Industrialization Company (NGIC) which is involved in a natural gas refinery in Saudi Arabia, it adopts multiple employee retention strategies. These strategies are aimed at ensuring that the company succeeds in its pursuit of guaranteeing industrial and economic progress in Saudi Arabia. This company has been facing issues of employee retention in its refinery department affecting its profitability and dominance in this competitive industry. In this regard, this study will evaluate the reasons and present recommendations to improve the retention in the company. This will be achieved by reviewing the current literature studies on employee retention practices, assessing the different issues in employee retention facing the company, recommending strategies in which employee retention can be improved in the case study company.
2.0 Assessment Criteria 2.1: HR area of Choice
The selected HR area of choice is employee retention. Notably, the focus is delivering a recommendation to the management on how they can implement employee retention through adopting work-life balance. The rationale of this is that majority of the NGIC staff have been complaining of lack of flexible working hours which has been noted in several exit interviews which I have been involved in the past. In most instances, due to lack of flexible working environment, the employees face issues of satisfaction, being unhappy hence failing to serve their customers dedicatedly with their loyalty to the organization declining.
