Solution:

Introduction

History is characterized by wars and colonialism which were mainly aimed at gaining power and control over a region. However, to win these wars, one of the main approaches was strategizing and developing profound tactics that would ensure victory over potential foes. It is imperative to first comprehend what strategies and tactics are in battles and wars. They are defined as preparations in wars including the arrangement of weapons and forces systems, combat actions and preliminary dispositions.  At both the operational and strategic levels, tactics are critical in the development of approaches that supersede those of a counterpart making them weak and submit to war. One of the important aspects that was used in history as the wars progressed was the culmination of art and science which entailed the development of profound elements such as machine guns and atomic bombs (Horowitz, 2014). Cimbala & McDermott (2015) note that while the psychological aspects such as fear, hunger, and exhilaration were part of strategies to win battles, the use of technology in the twentieth century was more profound across all realms from land to sea and air. This paper evaluates the application of technology in strategic concepts of naval, air and land power in the twentieth century. In these wars, technology was reflected in the development of war ships, aircrafts and tanks respectively

Twentieth Century Wars

The twentieth century has a reputation for a higher number of conflicts and wars which brought about the balance of power globally. It was also a century characterized by the emergence of major wars that were referred as ‘total wars’ such as World War I and II (Gilbert, 2014). The significance of these wars was based on the fact that they encompassed almost the entire globe. In other wars such as Chinese Civil War, although they were still significant as they caused deaths of millions, they remained local. Other wars during this century included Cold War in 1945-1990 and Vietnam War in 1959-1973. A major aspect characterizing these wars beside the extraordinary number of casualties was the use of profound strategies that were centered on technology (Evans, 2016). It is also during this period that art and science played a major role and adverse weapons such as nuclear bombs were invented. The use of guns and bombs had taken root as well as protective attire to the fighters which were aimed at preventing injuries. The twentieth century also remains critical as it saw the inception of other technological applications of war that have been enhanced in the twenty-first century such as drones and information based systems. At the basic levels, these strategies born from technology entailed both defensive and offensive operations. As reflected in major wars such as World War I, technological tactics including gunpowder and shoulder fired weapons provided a significant tactical advantage to the dismounted counterpart.
