(Solution) 5CO01 Impact of Changes to Selection and Employee Voice on Organisational Culture and Behaviour (AC2.2)

Solution

Q6. Assess how changes to selection and employee voice have impacted organisational culture
and behaviours at Chaffinch Group. (AC 2.2)

Changes to Selection

Chaffinch Group’s shift towards centralised recruitment, trusting agencies to provide staff without strict testing or consultation with current staff, has had a strong influence on organisational behaviour and culture. In the past, when led by Kirsten, selection was participative and not purely qualification-based but values and practice aligned with Calmere House’s person-centred ethos. Taking away such practice has watered down the cultural fit between new staff and the firm.

Impact on Culture: The culture of inclusion collaboration has been substituted with a transactional one in which agency workers are less committed to the cause of the home and the personalized requirements of residents (Rohwerder, 2017). This has resulted in shared identity loss and decreased cohesion among staff.

Impact on Behavior:  Staff attitudes have become more ego-driven with less cooperation and emotional involvement. The agency staff will be less likely to show discretionary effort or take part in continuous improvement, which will result in variable care provision and less morale among permanent staff.
