In the case of Saudi Telecom Company (STC), senior leaders are key catalysts to leadership and management development initiatives. CIPD (2022) indicates that in order to relate with an organisation’s goals, L&D strategies must be driven by a senior management. At STC senior leaders take up the role of sponsors and role models of development programmes. Setting the strategic direction, allocating budgets and endorsing the learning initiatives like the ‘Leadership Academy’ and ‘Future Women Leaders Programme’ are the responsibilities for commissions. The support for these programmes guarantees it is prioritised throughout business units. Also, senior leaders join as mentors to pass on their experience and leadership insights of real life to budding managers. Participation of employees from various levels in these programmes shows organisation’s dedication to leadership development and a continuous learning culture. Without this strategic oversight and support, initiatives may fall out of alignment with the long term goals; or they may fail to provide the resources and support necessary for full utilisation. They play an important role in making leadership development effective and in line with how we will grow and innovate for the years ahead.
