Frequency, Purpose and Process of Performance reviews/appraisals

In most organizations, the frequency of performance appraisals is done often. It is advisable owing to the complexities of the process to ensure that the process is conducted annually with all requirements of the appraisal being taken into account and all stakeholders actively involved. The purpose of performance appraisals is identifying the performance of different employees, identify those to be retained in the progress of the organization and ensuring that compensation is in line with the individual employee’s contributions to an entity progress. Hence, all the involved parties in an organization must actively be involved in the process. The process of performance reviews includes the establishment of performance standards, communicating standards and different expectations, measurement of the real performance, making comparisons with standards and being involved in decision making subsequently adopting the best corrective actions.
