Write a report in which you:
briefly summarise the CIPD Profession Map (i.e. the 2 core professional
areas, the specialist professional areas, the bands and the behaviours)
comment on the activities and knowledge specified within any 1 professional area, at either band 1 or band 2, identifying those you consider most essential to your own (or other identified) HR/L&D role.
Activity 2
With reference to your own (or other identified) HR/L&D role, outline how an HR/L&D practitioner should ensure the services they provide are timely and effective. You should include:
understanding customer needs (include examples of 3 different customers and 1 need for each, and explain how you would prioritise conflicting needs)
effective communication (include examples of 3 different communication
methods and the advantages and disadvantages of each)
effective service delivery (include: delivering service on time, delivering
service on budget, dealing with difficult customers, handling and resolving
complaints).
Activity 3
Undertake a self-assessment against the CIPD Profession Map at either band 1 or band 2, identifying any areas you need to develop in order to meet them i.e. the 2 core professional
areas, the specialist professional areas, the bands and the behaviours.
Using a template, such as the student template provided at:
https://www.cipd.co.uk/learn/cpd/cycle, devise a plan to meet your
development needs, including those identified above, and the achievement of
your CIPD qualification. The plan should be for a minimum of 6 months

Activity 1: CIPD Professional Map Area and Activities
1.1 Summary of HR Professional Map (i.e., the 2 Core Professional Areas, the remaining professional areas, the bands, and the behaviours)
In CIPD, the HR professional map is comprised of three main elements which are 10 professional areas, 8 behaviours and 4 Bands as shown in figure one below;

In the professional areas there are 2 core professional areas:
- Insights, Strategy and Solution:
To improve the understanding of the organisation and its insights and use these insights to modify strategy and solutions to meet organisational requirements now and in the future.
- Leading HR:
To provides an active and insight-led leadership by maximizing the contribution that you makes in your organisation and also leading, supporting and developing others within the organization.
and the other 8 areas, which are:
- Organisation Design:
To ensure that your organisation is appropriately designed to provide maximum impact.
- Organisation Development:
To ensure that your organisation has the right workforce needed to deliver its strategy.
- Resourcing and Talent Planning:
To ensure that your organisation is capable of identifying and attracting key people with their capability.
- Learning and Talent Development:
To ensure that your employee improves their skills, knowledge and experiences to achieve the organization goals.
- Performance and Reward:
To provide programmes that reward vital employee capabilities, skills, behaviours, experience and performance, fairly and cost-effective.
- Employee Engagement:
To ensure that the emotional connection that all your employees have with their work, colleagues and to their organisation is positive.
- Employee Relations:
To ensure that the relationship between the organisation and the employees managed appropriately.
- Service Delivery and Information:
To ensure that the delivery of HR service and information is accurate, efficient, timely and cost-effective.
The Behaviours:
The HR professional map has 8 behaviours that make the HR members carry out with their activities and responsibilities. The 8 behaviours are: (HR Professional Map 2012).

To be inquisitive and open-minded.
- Decisive Thinker:
To be able to analyse and understand data and information quickly to make decisions.
- Skilled Influencer:
To have the ability to influence to gain the necessary commitment and support.
- Personally Credible:
To have professionalism by combining commercial and HR expertise.
- Collaborative:
To be able to work with a large number of people effectively.
- Driven to Deliver:
The can deliver the best results for the organisation.
- Courage to Challenge:
The have the ability to challenging others.
- Role Model:
To be able to leads and act by example.
The Bands:
The HR Profession Map knowledge and activities in the 10 professional areas and the behaviours are showed in four bands. The four bands explain the contribution that professionals make at every stage of the HR career in the following key areas: (CIPD, 2009).
- Band 1:
In this band, you should support your colleagues with administration and processes. Also, you should manage information and data effectively and is customer orientated.
- Band 2:
In this band, you should be able to manage HR related issues. Also, you should have a clear understanding of the evaluation process and the solutions.
- Band 3:
In this band, you should be able to lead a professional area as a consultant or partner. And to handle the HR challenges at an organisational level for the medium and long-term
- Band 4:
In this band, you should be able to lead the organisation. Also, you will be responsible for developing and delivering organisational and HR strategy.
The purpose of the professional map is to devolve and support the employee and the organization by building HR capability, diagnosing areas of success and improvement, recognizing achievement through professional qualifications and defining great HR.

Identified professional Area I work in the Training division in Zoo & Aquarium Public Institution in Al Ain (ZAPIA).
