Executive Summary This paper has delved on critical analysis of secondary sources that inform on best practice in a Human Resource role. In this case, the flexible hours of working and employee retention to improve workplace productivity and turnover were selected. The entity basically informed the criteria for selecting the secondary sources and areas of HR with a direct connection. The findings of this critical evaluation include viable practices to improve on the flexible working hours and employee retention rates. 1.0 Assessment Criteria 4.1: Introduction

Currently, the issue of flexible working hours has been of interest by multiple scholars and researchers. This is attributed to the complexed nature of this aspect and the level in which they directly impact on overall performance and employee productivity. According to Podnar and Golob (2010), the productivity of organizations has a direct correlation with employee retention and turnover. Similarly, studies by (Galea et al., 2014; Kelliher & Anderson, 2010; Attia et al., 2014) evidenced that strict adoption of working hours’ flexibility concept has a direct correlation with perceived flexibility, employee engagement, and overall retention rates. This could be informed by the fact that the number of working hours decrease turnover rates through encouragements to the employees to progress with their working relationships hence retention. In this regard, it is ideal to review the concept of HR practice and develop a report to primary stakeholders on its best practice and subsequent improvement. In this case, this research has selected Hausknecht et al. (2009); Moen et al. (2011) and Richman et al. (2008) as the sources for research. First, a critical review is done followed by meaningful conclusions and lastly justified recommendations to stakeholders.

2.0 Assessment Criteria 2.1: HR area of Choice

In this critical review, the HR area of choice is employee retention through flexible working hours. The rationale for this decision is mostly attributed to my positionality as a team leader in a project initiated by a government entity in UAE. Due to the complexity of the task assigned to my department, I intend to facilitate the creation of opportunities to my team members to schedule their working hours. This is mainly targeting to improve their happiness, satisfaction, improved relationship with clients and cementing their loyalty to the organization.
