Recent statistics indicate that annually, between 700,000 to 1,000,000 people in USA fall in hospitals (Balaguera et al., 2017). The consequences of the falls include fractures, lacerations, or internal bleeding, leading to increased healthcare utilization. This has a negative implication of increased costs of medication, prolonged stay in hospitals, and psychological problems with the patient and their families. According to Matarese et al. (2015), fall prevention can include strategies such as management of patient underlying factors and optimization of hospital physical design and environment. Therefore, successful prevention of fall in hospitals is a fundamental requirement. Taking this into account, the purpose of this paper is to present an evaluation of the effects of a fall risk management nursing intervention for surgery patients admitted in a USA hospital on fall risk within the context of purposeful and intentional rounding by nurses.
