According to Shen (2015), the Cultural competence model describes cultural competence as the procedure in which healthcare professionals constantly attempt to acquire the skills to work effectively within the cultural framework. It is based on the interdependent relationship of five constructs including; Cultural awareness, cultural knowledge /skills, cultural conflicts, and desire. Therefore the model can enable us to understand significant challenges faced by nurses in rural areas.
