Solution
An example of a situation where the team leader would have to consult someone with senior authority is when the team is undergoing through crisis. Acknowledging the kind of crisis the team is facing, who is involved and what and why it happened is the initial step the team leader must take. This can be a challenging task, particularly at the onset of crises that gradually emerge from familiar situations, which can conceal their true nature. Recognizing the cause if the developing crisis for what it could ultimately become necessitates that leaders confront the normalcy bias. This bias often leads them to underestimate both the likelihood of a crisis occurring and its potential impact (Ainscow, M., 2020, 128).
Once the team leader recognizes the cause of the crisis, they begin to formulate a response which will also be positive to other team members. However, they cannot respond in the same way they would during a routine emergency, as this situation involves unfamiliarity and uncertainty. Effective responses must be largely improvised. The team may take a wide range of actions, one of which is to consult someone with senior authority. This is important because the solution must not disrupt the team’s operations (Agrawal, S. 2020, 2).
