Q7. Explain how Chaffinch Group could have better managed the change from a small ownermanaged care home to Calmere House being part of a large organisation. (AC 2.3)

Chaffinch Group would have handled the change process of Calmere House more efficiently by adopting the Change Management Model by Lewin, which would have been transferred successfully form a small-owner managed care home into a branch of a bigger organisation. The model consists of three major phases: Unfreeze, Change and Refreeze (Bell, 2022) and presents a methodical but humane approach to change.

Unfreeze

This phase entails the process of sensitising an organisation in readiness to change through subordinating current beliefs. Chaffinch Group was unable to properly prepare the personnel, too much entrenched in a spirit of co-operation like a big family, during the administration of Kirsten. To unfreeze, Chaffinch ought to have understood the emotional attachment staff members had with the former working habits and methods of communication and explain to them why they had to change through open channels of communication(Bell, 2022). Early involvement of staff and participating them in preliminary planning would have helped evade shock and untenable plans.

Change After establishing the foundation, then Chaffinch was able to bring changes gradually. The changes should have been gradual instead….
