Solution The CIPD advocates for employee wellbeing in all organisations as a strategic of fostering positive work environments that help organisations to accomplish their purpose. It cites wellbeing as one of the primary enablers of organisational performance (CIPD, 2022). Wellbeing refers to an individual’s perceptions as well as experiences regarding what is significant or important (Gallup Inc., 2022). It comprises things such as career, social life, financial status, and physical health. Importance of wellbeing at work Employee wellbeing has numerous benefits not only to individual employees but to the organisation as a whole. One, it helps in retaining quality employees. Employees who are presently struggling and those leading miserable lives in their workplaces are likely to look for better jobs compared to their counterparts who are thriving (Gallup Inc., 2022). Workplace wellbeing enhances productivity. It is reported that teams and/or individuals who perceive that their wellbeing is a priority among their employers tend to perform better in areas like customer engagement, productivity and others (Gallup Inc., 2022). By making employees more engaged, their productivity increases, leading to better business outcomes. Reduced absenteeism is another benefit of wellbeing. Wellbeing programs minimise ailments and health concerns among the workforce, reducing the time that workers take off duty. Factors impacting wellbeing Wellbeing is influenced by many factors. Physical health is one of them. Individuals who exercise regularly, eat healthy and take sufficient rest enjoy greater wellbeing and contribute to a thriving company. Emotional stability also affects wellbeing. It refers to the capability to control emotions, cope with challenges and manage stress (Zwilling, 2021). Emotionally stable employees can deal with adverse situations constructively and adapt to changes |
