Leadership style and Theory: Hersey-Blanchard Situational Leadership Theory
In Saudi Telecom Company (STC), situational leadership style is frequently utilized where it is consistent with Hersey-Blanchard situational leadership theory. According to this model, the team’s maturity and competence level determines how good a leader must be, by changing the leader’s style (telling, selling, participation, delegation, etc.) for the situation (CFI, 2022).
For example in the case of 5G new technologies, STC managers tend to be selling style when rolling out these new technologies giving directions and justifying the actions being taken with the team. However, if team members are motivated but do not have technical knowledge about the indicator, this approach is the best choice. However, in high performing units like digital transformation teams delegating style is used, these teams empower employees with skills to be able to make decisions and innovate (Lancefield, 2023).
This flexible leadership style boosts productivity, plus the development of employees, particularly so in a dynamic telecom sector. It reinforces the participative culture and creates leadership that is not fixed but responsive, is agile and aligned to STC’s Vision 2030 objectives. Due to the importance on adaptability the theory has, it fits well for managing diverse teams and complex projects.
