Introduction
The idea of procurement and supply has existed for many years. Nevertheless, there has been great evolution in the process of procurement since there is stiff competition in the market that requires new strategies to help different companies to get quality products. Technological development has played a major part in the evolution of procurement and supply in many companies. Dolphin Energy is one of the largest energy companies in the world that has developed a centralized structure to incorporate the activities of the firm across Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. In the current world, there are a lot of uncertainties in the sources of different energy supplies thus there is unstable prices of products (Menhat et al., 2014). Nevertheless, in order to continuously remain competitive in the current market, Dolphin Energy needs to develop new procurement and supply strategic measures that would be effective for the current energy market. It is on this basis that this paper examines how Dolphin Energy can drive value through supply and procurement of its products and services.
Procurement and Supply Function Opportunities to Create Efficiencies
Dolphin Energy can create efficiencies in its procurement and supply function by adding value to its processes of procurement through continuous improvement. According to Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) (n.d.), continuous improvement involves processes, services, products, and people in a company. It is gradually rather than spontaneously implemented, requires keen supervision and management, and should be in tandem with the culture of the organization. CIPS (n.d.) highlights various ways through which continuous improvement can be done; they include total quality management (TQM), benchmarking, and business process re-engineering.
